How do I update strictly offline devices from version to without WSUS? – Microsoft Q&A – Privacy & Transparency

Ask a new question. I’m trying to apply this patch to a number of PCs already running Win 10 less than 10 PCs at a site with limited internet speed and quota. The limited quota means that due to this patches size applying it from Windows Update causes the monthly usage quota to be exceeded. I have tried to use Anniversary Release install media that I downloaded to do an upgrade. While it does upgrade the system it behaves differently to the Windows Update patch in that some previously installed software stops working and needs to be reinstalled.

With the Windows Update patch everything works after the upgrade. So having this as an offline patch file I can take on-site to apply would be most beneficial and if anyone can direct me to the download I would appreciate it. It checked and said it would keep personal files and apps but obviously some of the apps were not kept. Is there an alternative way of running it? Win 10 is supposed to be able to use previously downloaded updates from other computers on your network.

The setting is in the advanced update options. Perhaps certain types of updates are more suited for this, such as large ones. I have had mixed experience with it working, depending if all the systems were set to use just local systems or local and internet. I know mine has worked in the past because the download speed on one system was three times my internet speed. In such a situation, of course, you would need to update at least one system with the rest following in groups.

I don’t think it would ever use just local sources. In reply to Saltgrass’s post on December 7, I have tried this in the past with Win 10 updates and I have had no success with having PCs share updates locally so I don’t hold any hopes for it as a solution. You shall directly upgrade to the Windows 10 version from your existing version of Windows 10 and, you do not have to deploy any versions in between.
