User’s post on August 11, With respect I think the Microsoft answer has missed the point here. The user was asking about Windows 10 Home “device encryption”, which is supposed to be included in the Home edition. There are no instructions on how to enable it, or to check if it is enabled.
It is obvious on the forums that many people are affected and confused by this problem. Bitlocker is available in Win 10 Home. Plenty of users have Bitlocked drives. In reply to Dudeman’s post on September 18, Where did you find the instructions to use BitLocker on Home version. Upgraded your PC to Windows 10 and want to encrypt your drives? Great, you could use a 3rd party tool, or use BitLocker. For the curious, TPM is an encryption processor that is used to secure hardware, including drives.
Disabling it here is only needed when your system throws the aforementioned errors because not all systems have TPM. So here are the steps to bypass it.
Assuming that the computer has been configured to display classic start menu, click Start and at the bottom of the menu in search box type GPEDIT. MSC command and press enter key. On the opened box click to select Enabled radio button and ensure that under Options section Allow Bit Locker without a compatible TPM check box is checked.
Once these are done, you will now be able to proceed with encrypting your drive using BitLocker. Not much has changed in Windows 10 as far as setting up BitLocker encryption is concerned.

Pictures helped. The former option allows you to unlock the operating system drive at startup with a connected USB flash drive saving startup key. Can you help us improve? If you have BitLocker turned on for your device, it’s important to be sure you have the Recovery Key backed up somewhere. Turn this crap off, as it slows down everything. It isn’t available on Windows Home edition.
